| News from RKW.... | |
| PFI | RKW is the leading healthcare advisor to lenders behind the first wave PFI projects in England and Scotland. RKW has been commissioned as part of the due diligence process on six schemes, with a combined value of £600m, including the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital which recently achieved financial close. |
| Affordability | continues to be a primary focus of much of RKW's work and our financial models have been applied in exploring the case for major developments including Great Ormond Street and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals. |
| Emergency admissions | RKW is involved in a joint initiative with information brokers Intercontinental Medical Statistics (IMS) to proved real time information to assist Trusts and other stakeholders in the more effective management of beds and emergency admissions. The results of a current pilot study will be featured at the NHS Confederation 50th Anniversary Conference in July. |
| Research | Urban Community Hospitals - were the subject of a major research project, carried out by RKW as part of North Thames Executive's Primary/Secondary Interface programme. The final report, including findings on the role, relationships and cost effectiveness of urban community hospitals, should be generally available by early summer and may be of particular interest to those involved in Health Action Zones and Primary care groups. RKW has also been commissioned to prepare a Health Building Note on Community Hospitals, updating our 1991 Design Guide in the light of recent and future changes in health service configuration. Telemedicine - RKW has been awarded national research funding to develop a modelling approach to evaluate costs, benefits and impact of telemedicine upon a typical healthcare system. We will be looking for case study participants in early spring and the work will be completed by the end of the year. Cancer Services RKW has developed service models to illustrate Calman Hines principles as a basis for the forthcoming Cancer Care Health Building Note. |
| Publications/conferences | RKW's recent articles in the Health Service Journal cover PFI, due diligence and telemedicine. Our 1997 conference presentations included "Public Health - Private property?" at the Kings Fund European Symposium on Health care Futures, and "Can Healthcare Take Off?" at the 1997 International Hospital Federation Conference in Melbourne. Copies of all the above are available from RKW. |
