In the North of England drinking at home in and around Yorkshire has become a problem. And with drinking problems no one is immune with it entering homes of doctors, bankers, lawyers and other professionals.
Once alcohol is embraced then there will always be a receptive booze supplier and the alcohol will never fail in delivering that” just another one” and today there are many rural Yorkshire areas that are beset with drinking problems and alcoholism.
In recent years home drinking has really increased at an alarming rate and trying to combat the problems there have been a number of alcohol and detoxification and rehabilitation centres open in both Harrogate and Leeds and other cities and towns scattered throughout the Yorkshire area.
Along with the drinking problem come social problems as homes are broken apart with divorces and children living with dysfunctional parents and police have to take care of more DUI offences. Health deteriorates and more visits to the doctor are needed therefore medical costs increase.
Monetary issues are not even immune to the abuse of alcohol problems. The National Health Service (NHS) spends an estimated £2.5 billion annually to treat the alcohol abuse problems and all their side affects.
Yorkshire now has the highest proportion of people that have been deemed high-risk drinkers and they are those that regularly drink to an excess at home, in the rural areas and it is most severe in North Yorkshire where an estimated six of eight local areas are in the bottom 25 of all the 326 authority areas in England. Harrogate is ranked, sadly, next to last in the country.
