Topical Treatment for genital herpes

Topical Treatment Topical treatment is applied directly to the skin, not taken by mouth. It is worth noting that the genital herpes virus is carried in nerves at the base of the spine, not just on the skin. Creams and ointments will only work near the surface of the skin. Therefore, topical treatments may provide some relief of symptoms, but have not been shown to be as effective as oral treatment. Back to Treatment Centre
