The Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Clinic at The Princess Grace Hospital has been established to complement
our ENT services and offers consultation, diagnosis and treatment for sufferers of this distressing
condition. Specially staffed by Consultant Ear Nose & Throat Surgeons, Consultant Chest Physician and
Consultant Anaesthetist, the clinic provides a comprehensive assessment and treatment facility.
What treatments are available?
On your initial visit you will undergo a full evaluation confirming the particular type of condition
you suffer. You will then be advised on a course of action and the treatments available. We will
discuss with you a number of options.
These include:
Lifestyle changes
Some patients are weight sensitive snorers. Weight reduction alone may provide a complete cure.
Referral to a dietician is often recommended.
Somnoplasty
A revolutionary new treatment using low-power, low-temperature radiofrequency energy to cause a
reduction in size of the mucosa (soft palate).
Laser Assisted Uvuloplasty
LAUP Is also an effective treatment for palatal snorers. Patients have different areas of airway
obstruction and will require differing treatment on a case by case basis.
Corrective nasal airway surgery - Septoplasty/Nasal Polypectomy
The nose is the natural first part of our respiratory trait. Obstruction in the nasal passages due
to polyps or deformity may require correction.
Tonsillectomy/Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty
Proven benefit in a small number of snorers and mild sleep apnoea suffers where the tonsils and
pharynx/throat walls are causing obstruction.
Nasal CPAP (Continuous Positive Airways Pressure Ventilation)
This treatment is reserved for significant obstructive sleep apnoea patients with severe health
problems.
Dietary referral
Snoring problems are often exacerbated if you are slightly overweight. Significant relief can often
be obtained by some degree of weight reduction. A consultation with a dietician to advise and assist
you in a sensible weight reduction programme may be be of help.
